Police have successfully recaptured a prisoner who fled during a transfer between secure hospital facilities and North Manchester Hospital on Tuesday evening. Marwan Jumaa, aged 20, was taken into custody by Lancashire Constabulary after an extensive manhunt, Greater Manchester Police confirmed early on Friday.
Detective Superintendent Nicola McCulloch explained that an alert officer from Lancashire Constabulary identified Jumaa and promptly arrested him. “He will now be returned to a secure hospital facility,” she added. Jumaa, currently serving an indefinite sentence for assaulting two women, had absconded during the transfer and was considered a danger both to himself and others.
Authorities had previously appealed to the public for assistance in locating Jumaa, advising them not to approach him but to report any sightings. McCulloch highlighted the rapid nature of the investigation, noting the large commitment of officers and resources from Greater Manchester Police dedicated to the search.
Expressing gratitude, McCulloch thanked the public for their invaluable support in providing information. “Our call handlers received a considerable amount of information from members of the public and that assistance has been invaluable in helping us locate Jumaa,” she said. “We are extremely grateful for the support shown throughout this investigation.
