Three men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms following a brutal sexual assault on a woman at Brighton beach. The three, identified as asylum seekers Abdulla Ahmadi, Ibrahim Alshafe, and Karin Al-Danasurt, carried out the attack in the early hours of October 4. The victim described the harrowing experience, saying she was “led into the darkness to be used as a sexual plaything” and that the perpetrators’ laughter still haunted her, leaving her feeling contaminated despite her attempts to wash away the trauma.
At Hove Crown Court, Ahmadi, aged 26 from Iran, and Alshafe, also 26, from Egypt, were each sentenced to 21 years in prison. Al-Danasurt, 21 and from Egypt as well, was convicted for his role in filming the assault and received an 18-and-a-half-year sentence. Judge Christine Henson KC condemned the actions of the men, describing the attack as “entirely predatory and callous.” She emphasized the profound and irreversible effect the crime had on the victim, highlighting the devastating and life-changing consequences she continues to endure.
The three men were residing in a Home Office-approved hotel for asylum seekers in Horsham when the incident took place. In addition to their prison sentences, they will each serve six years on extended licence. They are required to complete two-thirds of their respective sentences before they can be considered for parole. The prosecution revealed that the men were actively seeking out women that night along the Brighton seafront, frequenting bars and nightclubs with the intent of finding victims for sexual assault.
According to court testimony, after leaving a club, the men encountered the victim, who was incapacitated and struggling to walk, at a fast-food outlet. They then proceeded to the beach where Ahmadi and Alshafe raped her behind a beach hut while Al-Danasurt recorded the attack on video. The victim recounted further abuses during the assault, including being spat upon, kicked, and having her throat grabbed. It was also disclosed that the accused men had formed a connection through their shared accommodation at a Home Office hotel in Lower Beeding, with Ahmadi and Alshafe having arrived in the UK via a boat from France in June 2025, and Al-Danasurt joining in October 2024. The night before the assault, the three prepared at their hotel before traveling together to Brighton. Prosecutors described Alshafe as a “nasty little predator” who had been rejected by several women earlier that evening and was roaming the area with the others looking for opportunities to commit the criminal act. Following the attack, the men returned to their hotel and held a barbecue that same night
