Anne Widdecombe’s death has been described by police as the result of a “targeted attack,” with detectives actively investigating the reasons behind the incident. Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, who leads Counter Terrorism Policing, revealed that investigators are examining her appearance on Talk TV, where she worked as a spokesperson for Reform UK, on the morning she was killed at her residence in Devon. He refrained from commenting on the possibility of foreign state involvement or whether the suspect might have committed terrorism offenses separate from the murder charge. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood informed the House of Commons that the individual was not previously known to the government’s Prevent anti-terror program. Taylor requested that the public avoid speculation about the attacker’s motive and urged that the investigation be allowed to proceed based on the evidence uncovered
