Newly-released video shows Peter Falconio's killer questioned

On the 25th anniversary of Peter Falconio’s murder, Australian police released bodycam footage capturing one of the final efforts to persuade Bradley Murdoch to disclose the location of Falconio’s remains. The footage offers a glimpse into the investigation nearly a quarter-century after the tragic event.

Peter Falconio, originally from Huddersfield, was fatally shot on a desolate section of highway near Barrow Creek in the Northern Territory during July 2001. At the time, he was travelling across Australia alongside his girlfriend, Joanne Lees. Following the shooting, Lees was abducted by Murdoch but managed to escape after hiding in the outback scrub for several hours. Eventually, she flagged down two truck drivers who came to her aid.

In the video filmed in June 2025, a police officer can be heard appealing to Murdoch by saying, “I need you to have a think about if Peter Falconio was your son Quinton, and somebody knew something about where his body was.” Despite this heartfelt plea, Murdoch did not reveal any information about the location of Falconio’s body.

Bradley Murdoch passed away in July 2025 while serving a life sentence for the murder of Falconio, who was 28 years old at the time of his death. The bodycam footage remains a poignant reminder of the unresolved questions surrounding the case
