A British family vacationing in the town of Bedar recently endured a harrowing escape from one of Spain’s most devastating wildfires. According to Spanish officials, the fire has claimed the lives of twelve individuals in the village, including four British citizens, while an additional 23 people remain unaccounted for.
Lucinda Curtois, who traveled to Spain with her partner Riyaz Cheytan and their teenage children on Thursday, described the ordeal as unexpected and frightening. She shared that they were unprepared for the intense blaze they encountered, stating they were not “expecting to hit a wall of fire.”
Tragically, the family later learned that close friends of theirs had perished in the disaster. Curtois explained that these friends had left their home on foot, a decision she found puzzling. She speculated that their route might have been blocked, given that they live in a rural area, which could have forced them to flee without a vehicle.
