Liverpool City Council is hosting a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing later this month at the Cunard Building, inviting local residents, partners, and stakeholders to participate. This event is part of the council’s broader climate engagement strategy, intended to shed light on the pressing issues related to climate change and the loss of nature, as well as their potential effects on Liverpool’s communities.
The film featured at the event presents evidence from the National Emergency Briefing, where prominent UK experts discuss the current impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on various aspects of daily life, such as health, infrastructure, the economy, and local populations. Its purpose is to provide audiences with clear, research-backed information and to foster informed dialogue about possible responses at both the local and national levels.
After the roughly 50-minute screening, there will be a guided discussion focused on how Liverpool can enhance its resilience and prepare for future ecological challenges. Liverpool City Council recognizes its critical role in addressing climate-related issues through sectors like housing, transport, urban planning, and infrastructure development, while also emphasizing local preparedness for events such as flooding and heatwaves.
Cllr Liam Robinson, the Leader of Liverpool City Council, highlighted the importance of this event, stating, “The impacts of climate change are already being felt in communities across the UK, which is why it is important that people have access to clear, evidence-based information and the opportunity to discuss what it means for Liverpool. I would encourage anyone with an interest in the future of our city to come along, watch the screening and take part in the conversation.” The event is part of a wider community screening initiative happening throughout the UK during the summer months
