Liverpool City Council extends its gratitude to the community for their continued patience throughout the ongoing improvements on Speke Hall Road and the nearby vicinity. These enhancements have been underway for several months, and the council confirms that the project is expected to reach completion by the end of this month.
Since the commencement of the works in March, the contractor Aureos, representing the Council, has undertaken several key tasks. These include the removal of outdated traffic lights and islands to allow for upgraded signals, and the removal of trees affected by ash dieback, a severe fungal disease harming ash trees, with plans to replant all removed trees. Additionally, new underground housing has been installed for traffic light cabling, drainage repairs have been finalized near the Hillfoot Road junction, significant resurfacing has been performed on Speke Hall Road, and emergency repairs have addressed a substantial hole beneath the road surface measuring 13 meters by 2 meters.
The final phase involves resurfacing the road, which will be carried out in stages designed to reduce disruption as much as possible. Collaboration with local businesses has been a priority to accommodate access requirements throughout these periods. To facilitate this work, a series of overnight closures are scheduled between 8pm and 6am over various dates in July. These closures will impact sections such as Barford Road to Hillfoot Avenue junction, Hillfoot Avenue junction itself, Speke Hall Road north of Hillfoot Avenue, Triumph Way, and areas near Asda and McDonald’s in Speke.
In addition to these works, survey activity is being conducted at the Woolton Road and Menlove Avenue junction. Temporary lane closures are necessary to ensure the safety of staff while assessments are carried out ahead of traffic light upgrades planned for after the Speke Hall Road improvements conclude. During this period, signed diversion routes will be maintained, and all road closures will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so.
