Having spent two weeks at the hospital, the boy has already undergone five surgeries, with the family indicating that at least two further operations will be necessary. The incident occurred while the boy, who lives in Cambridgeshire, was visiting a local zoo with his family and sustained serious injuries inside an animal enclosure, according to Cambridgeshire Police.
Chris Newman, director of the National Centre for Reptile Welfare, informed the BBC that three members of the Johnson family entered the enclosure on the day of the incident. The zoo’s owners praised those who assisted the boy for their “incredible speed and determination” in responding to the emergency. The family also publicly thanked the zoo staff who were involved in rescuing their son from the enclosure.
The zoo, which houses more than 100 animals including lions, tigers, and meerkats, has a history with crocodilians dating back to 2006 when these species were first introduced to the farm. Currently, the collection includes broad-snouted caiman, Nile crocodiles, and American alligators
