A search operation at Clifton Country Park in Swinton, Greater Manchester, has led to the recovery of a body linked to the disappearance of a 15-year-old boy. The teenager was last seen struggling in the River Irwell on Saturday afternoon, prompting an extensive search that lasted two days. Emergency services, including the North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue, were involved in the efforts to locate him.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery of the body but noted that formal identification has not yet been completed. Detective Inspector Dave Ogden described the situation as “truly heart breaking” and expressed his condolences to the boy’s family and friends. He emphasized the tragic nature of the loss and reflected on the dangers posed by open water environments.
