Harry and Meghan accept offer to stay at royal estate during UK visit

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have agreed to stay at a royal residence along with their two children during their upcoming visit to the UK next month. This will mark Harry, Meghan, and their children Archie, aged seven, and Lilibet, five, making their first family trip to Britain in four years. While the exact royal estate where they will be staying has not been disclosed, it is confirmed they will reside on royal grounds during their visit.

Their trip is planned to last several days, and in addition to the royal residence, the family will spend some time in private accommodations as well. Prince Harry’s visit is primarily to commence the year-long lead-up to the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded veterans scheduled to take place in Birmingham next July. Besides this, Prince Harry is also anticipated to support various UK-based charities that he has maintained ties with since relocating to California.

In earlier visits, Prince Harry had turned down offers to stay at Buckingham Palace, citing concerns over the prominence and visibility of the location. In a legal challenge last year, he unsuccessfully sought police protection while visiting the UK. Following the court’s decision, Harry spoke candidly in a BBC News interview about hoping for “reconciliation” with the Royal Family, though he also expressed reservations about the safety of bringing Meghan and their children to his homeland. “I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point and the things they’re going to miss is, well, everything,” he said. “You know I love my country, I always have done despite what some people in the country have done.”

Details regarding security arrangements for the upcoming trip have not been publicly shared, but it appears that Buckingham Palace will not be providing additional security. Such measures, if necessary, will fall under the jurisdiction of the Home Office. The last occasion when the King saw his grandchildren in person was during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Furthermore, Prince Harry and the King met for tea at Clarence House last September, marking their first face-to-face meeting since February 2024. Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives of the Sussexes have commented on whether the King will meet with Harry, Meghan, and their children, referring to it as a private family matter
