TikTok star from Kent faces death penalty for Dubai murder

A 23-year-old TikTok influencer named Brooke George from Gravesend, Kent, has been charged with the murder of her boyfriend in Dubai. According to the advocacy group Detained in Dubai, she faces the possibility of execution by firing squad if found guilty under UAE law. Brooke was accused of stabbing the man she was in a relationship with, whom she met online.

The group Detained in Dubai reports that Brooke claimed the stabbing occurred in self-defence during a violent attack by her partner. They have urged authorities to consider the circumstances as a case of domestic violence and have called for her release on bail. The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed that they are providing support to Brooke and her family.

Brooke, who previously worked for John Lewis, was arrested in the early hours of June 22 and charged with premeditated murder. While detained at Bur Dubai Police Station, she alleges that she was forced to strip naked in front of male officers without a female officer present, an experience she described as “deeply humiliating and distressing.”

On her first visit to Dubai, Brooke described the experience as “the time of my life.” However, her relationship reportedly turned abusive during a second trip to the city. Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, explained that Brooke’s partner became increasingly controlling and violent. Brooke allegedly tried to leave Dubai after he reportedly punched her, withheld her passport, and attacked her again at their apartment. According to Stirling, Brooke feared for her life and grabbed a kitchen knife in self-defence.

Brooke’s mother, Thereza George, described the change in her daughter’s demeanor following the second trip. She said Brooke was “quieter and not her usual happy, cheerful self” the day before the incident. Speaking about the evening of the attack, Thereza explained that Brooke seemed “absolutely terrified” and was visibly injured, with a swollen eye. She expressed deep concern for her daughter’s welfare and believed Brooke was desperately trying to escape a dangerous situation.

Detained in Dubai has also raised concerns that Brooke was denied access to her embassy and forced to make statements without legal representation. Stirling highlighted broader issues related to violence against women, self-defence rights, due process, and the treatment of British nationals abroad. The group continues to call for Brooke’s release on bail, stressing the UAE’s documented history of penalising women who report violence, and demands that she be provided with protection, medical care, legal counsel, and consular assistance.

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office reiterated their involvement, stating: “We are in touch with a British woman detained in the UAE, we are supporting her family, and we are in contact with the local authorities.”
