A significant search and rescue effort is currently underway after a 15-year-old boy went missing while swimming at a nature reserve. The incident took place at Testwood Lakes, located near Totton in Hampshire. Emergency services arrived at the site around 13:45 GMT to begin the search operation. The police have restricted access to the area, advising the public to stay away.
Hampshire Police have deployed marine units to assist in locating the missing teenager, while additional support has come from the National Police Air Service, South Central Ambulance Service, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service. The nature reserve remains closed until further notice as teams continue their efforts.
The event coincided with what is believed to be the hottest June day ever recorded in the UK, with temperatures hitting 36.1C in Gosport, Hampshire. Testwood Lakes, which is owned by Southern Water and managed locally by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, expressed deep concern over the ongoing situation. The reserve’s management confirmed the multi-agency operation initiated by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Police and reiterated the request for the public to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for Southern Water conveyed sympathy for the boy’s family and friends and emphasized the importance of allowing emergency teams to carry out their work without interference.
