A tragic paragliding accident in the north-eastern region of Catalonia, Spain, has claimed the life of a 63-year-old British man. The incident occurred near Palau de Noguera, close to the town of Tremp, a popular destination for paragliding enthusiasts. Emergency responders were alerted to the situation at approximately 13:30 local time (14:30 BST) on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, rescuers found the man seriously injured and administered first aid while awaiting the arrival of medical teams. Despite their efforts, he later died as a result of his injuries. The UK Foreign Office has confirmed they are providing assistance to the family of the deceased.
Reports from local media suggest that the man may have become entangled in power lines before falling to the ground, though officials have not officially confirmed the cause of the accident. Palau de Noguera lies near Àger, a known hotspot for paragliders and hang gliders situated on the outskirts of the Pyrenees mountain range.
The Catalan government stated that three fire brigades and two medical teams responded to the emergency, with the Mossos d’Esquadra police force collaborating alongside five units specializing in citizen security and investigations.
