A collision involving an ambulance and a car on Balmore Road in Glasgow resulted in the death of a patient and injuries to three ambulance personnel. The incident took place around 21:00 on Tuesday evening. Emergency services were promptly called to the scene following the crash.
According to Police Scotland, the patient who had been inside the ambulance later passed away in hospital due to a “medical matter.” Among those injured were two ambulance workers and a student paramedic. The authorities also confirmed the arrest of the 49-year-old male driver of the car, who faces a road traffic offence investigation as inquiries continue.
The Scottish Ambulance Service stated that the ambulance was en route to Glasgow Royal Infirmary when the collision occurred. After the accident, the patient was transferred to a hospital by a different ambulance. Meanwhile, the injured ambulance staff were taken to two separate medical facilities: two workers were admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and the student paramedic was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
The crash has led to an ongoing investigation by the police. Images from the scene showed the extent of the damage to the ambulance and the car involved, with emergency personnel attending to those affected.
