Arrest over push of woman into bus's path in Putney in 2017

In May 2017, an alarming incident occurred on Putney Bridge in south-west London, where a woman, aged 33 at the time, was allegedly pushed into the path of an oncoming bus by a jogger. The event was captured on CCTV footage, showing the runner seemingly shoving the woman onto the road. Fortunately, she avoided serious injury due to the quick actions of the bus driver.

Recently, the Metropolitan Police arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with this case on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. The individual is currently being held in police custody. Sgt Mat Knowles remarked on the incident, stating, “It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle.” Likewise, Oliver Salbris, the driver involved, told the Sunday Times, “If I hadn’t swerved, I would have smashed her head. It was reflex. The consequences would have been terrible for her – and for me.”

Additional reports from the time indicate that approximately 15 minutes after the incident, the jogger returned, crossing the bridge in the opposite direction and failing to engage when the victim attempted to speak with him. During their investigation, detectives identified more than 50 people of interest, but in 2018 the case was closed after authorities stated that they had exhausted all possible leads
