Hidden camera found in government building

A concealed camera has recently been uncovered within a government building located in Westminster. The device was discovered in a communal area of the Marsham Street complex, which houses both the Home Office and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). According to the i newspaper, the camera was found tucked behind a ceiling panel sometime within the past two months, and relevant security agencies have been notified.

Sources from the Home Office revealed that the hidden camera was located in the section of the building occupied by the MHCLG, away from the offices used by government ministers. When approached for comment, a spokesperson from the MHCLG stated, “We do not comment on security matters.” The Marsham Street site serves as the primary workplace for the Home Office, an organization responsible for policing in England and Wales as well as national security, alongside the MHCLG, which manages housing and planning policy in England.

Expressing concern over the incident, Tory shadow Cabinet Office minister Alex Burghart described the situation as “a serious incident that demands an urgent investigation.” He emphasized the implications for government security, pointing out that the presence of the hidden camera raises critical questions about vulnerabilities within departments. Burghart added, “The public deserves answers. We urgently need to know who was responsible, how long this device was in place and whether any sensitive or classified information has been compromised.”

Neither the Home Office nor the prime minister’s spokesperson offered further comments on the matter. The prime minister’s representatives directed inquiries to the earlier statement issued by the MHCLG, maintaining a position of non-disclosure regarding the investigation and security concerns
