An 18-year-old student from Southampton, Henry Nowak, was restrained in handcuffs following a stabbing incident involving 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa. At the scene, Digwa falsely claimed he had been the target of a racist attack. Subsequently, Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term set at 21 years.
Henry Nowak’s parents have expressed that they hold Digwa fully accountable for their son’s murder. However, they also raised serious concerns about the treatment Henry received from the police, describing it as both inhumane and degrading. In response, Hampshire police issued an apology to the family, and the matter has now been escalated to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for further review.
BBC Verify conducted an analysis of bodycam footage authorized for release by Nowak’s family, scrutinizing critical moments leading up to the fatal incident. This detailed examination aimed to provide clarity on the events preceding Henry’s death. The report was compiled by Merlyn Thomas.
