Nicola Sturgeon, the former First Minister of Scotland, has given her first public interview since her estranged husband, Peter Murrell, confessed to embezzling £400,000 from the Scottish National Party (SNP). In a conversation with BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg, Sturgeon addressed the serious allegations connected to Murrell’s actions.
During the interview, Sturgeon firmly stated, “I am not responsible for the crimes that my former husband committed and I’m not going to apologise for somebody else’s crimes.” She expressed a deep sense of injustice, mentioning that she felt like she was “serving a sentence for a crime I did not commit.”
Peter Murrell, who formerly served as the SNP’s chief executive, admitted on Monday to misappropriating party funds for personal expenses, including purchasing luxury items such as jewellery, cosmetics, two vehicles, and a motorhome. Despite these revelations, Sturgeon has maintained her position that she was unaware of Murrell’s illegal activities throughout his tenure.
