A tragic incident occurred near Fleetwood Beach Cafe in Thornton Cleveleys, where a woman lost her life after attempting to save her dog from the sea. The woman and a man, both in their 60s, encountered difficulties upon entering the water to assist their pet, which had become trapped. Lancashire Police confirmed the circumstances surrounding the event.

The coastguard carried out a rescue operation shortly after 8:30 pm BST on Saturday, successfully bringing both individuals to safety. Unfortunately, despite medical treatment at the scene and subsequent care in hospital, the woman did not survive. The man remains hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities have confirmed that their dog was located unharmed following the rescue.

A police spokesperson provided further details, stating: “The couple were treated at the scene, but sadly the woman, aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at hospital.” Efforts are underway to notify her next of kin. The spokesperson also confirmed that the dog was recovered safe and well.
