A 17-year-old boy from Crewe, David Tita Jr, has tragically died after going missing at Pick Mere, a lake located between Knutsford and Northwich in Cheshire. David had been spending time with friends by the water on Tuesday afternoon before he was reported missing. His family has shared a heartfelt tribute expressing the depth of their loss and the profound impact he had on those around him.
David’s loved ones described him as “compassionate, sensitive, brave and full of light,” highlighting the warmth and kindness he brought into their lives. They reflected on how his smile was uplifting, likening it to mountains smiling at the arrival of spring. His empathy and ability to connect with others made him a cherished figure not only within their family but also in the wider Crewe community. The family emphasized that David was much more than a son to them—he was also a friend, a brother, and a strong source of support.
This heartbreaking event occurred amid a spell of record-breaking heat across parts of the UK. Tragically, David is not the only young person to have lost their life in water-related incidents recently. Similar tragedies have affected young people in locations such as Kent, Oxford, Lincoln, Halifax, Rotherham, Warwickshire, and Farnborough. Additionally, a man in his 60s in Cornwall and a woman in her 70s in Wales have also died in related incidents.
In their tribute, David’s family expressed the immeasurable pain they feel, stating, “No words will ever describe the loss of our son. This pain in our chests will never leave us and will forever be within our hearts.” They went on to say, “You were ripped away from having a full and rich life and we were stolen the chance of ever having to see you grow old and have your own children and family.” Despite their sorrow, they conveyed enduring love for David, promising to remember him “in the stars, the heavens and through sunsets,” as they hold on to his memory until they can “meet again.
