Carrickfergus: Man taken to hospital after being stabbed in chest

A man has been hospitalized following a stabbing in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. The incident took place shortly after 19:30 BST on Wednesday in the Rodgers Quay part of the town, where the victim suffered a chest wound as well as injuries to his head.

According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the suspect, described as a man in his 40s, approximately six feet tall and of medium build, is believed to have escaped the scene riding a motorcycle. Emergency services, including one ambulance from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), responded promptly and transported the injured man to the hospital. His injuries are not currently considered life-threatening.

The stabbing occurred during a motorcycle gathering near Carrickfergus Castle, an event that typically runs smoothly without problems. Detective Inspector Lenaghan stated the meeting “generally passes off peacefully with no issues.” Investigators are now seeking witnesses and any information from the public to assist with their inquiry. Lenaghan appealed for help, noting that “there were a large number of people in the area at the time of the incident,” and encouraged anyone who might have useful details to come forward.

Dean Morris, the organiser of the Storming the Castle event, addressed the incident in a social media post. He expressed gratitude for the support received and emphasized that the episode “in no way reflects the purpose, values, or intentions of this community meet.” Morris extended his best wishes for a full recovery to those injured, underscoring that the community is founded on “hard work, passion, and mutual respect,” and affirming their commitment to preserving what has been built despite this unfortunate occurrence
