Man arrested over Manchester synagogue attack

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of withholding information related to terrorist activity following the synagogue attack in Manchester. The incident involved Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, who launched an assault using a vehicle and a knife at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue on the morning of 2 October 2025. The attack tragically claimed the lives of two worshippers, Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz.

Al-Shamie, who lived in Prestwich, was shot dead by police officers at the scene. Counter Terrorism Policing North West confirmed that the recent arrest is connected directly to the synagogue attack. Authorities conducted a raid on a property located on St James’ Road in Higher Broughton, Salford, on Tuesday evening, where the suspect is now being questioned.

In total, eight individuals have been detained in relation to the attack. Among them, a 30-year-old man has already been charged with failing to disclose information about terrorist activity. Additionally, another person faces terrorism-related charges that are unrelated to the synagogue assault. During an inquest hearing held in October, it was revealed that Melvin Cravitz was fatally stabbed by Al-Shamie, while Adrian Daulby died due to a gunshot wound inflicted by police.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts of Counter Terrorism Policing North West stated, “The suspected offence relates directly to the terrorist attack that took place at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in October.” He also noted that updates have been provided to the families of Mr. Daulby and Mr. Cravitz, as well as to those seriously injured in the attack. Potts affirmed their commitment to uncovering the full circumstances of the incident and ensuring that answers are delivered to the victims and the wider community
