Around 100 firefighters tackle blaze in Golders Green

A significant fire is currently being fought by approximately 100 firefighters at a supermarket located beneath residential flats in the Golders Green area of north-west London. The incident, involving a three-storey building, has drawn considerable emergency response efforts since early Wednesday morning.

The London Fire Brigade reported receiving its initial call just after 06:45 BST, followed by a total of 56 calls related to the blaze. The building on Golders Green Road has been emitting a large amount of smoke, prompting the deployment of 15 fire engines from locations including Willesden, Finchley, and West Hampstead. In response, residents are being advised to keep all windows and doors closed to prevent smoke inhalation.

At present, there are no reports of injuries. Authorities have implemented several road closures near the scene, including Golders Green Road close to the Beverley Gardens junction, to facilitate firefighting efforts and ensure public safety. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.

Police officers are actively assisting the fire brigade, particularly with evacuation procedures in the area. A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police emphasized that the priority is managing the fire and protecting the public, stating, “This is an ongoing incident with the focus on dealing with the fire and ensuring the safety of the public.
