Durham breast cancer scandal victims demand inquiry

Two breast cancer patients, Nadeen Lister and Amelia Green, have launched a petition calling for a public inquiry into the breast cancer services at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT). A report revealed multiple failings at the trust, including missed cancer diagnoses and unnecessary mastectomies, with 270 women reportedly harmed. The trust has apologized and claims to have strengthened clinical leadership.

Amelia Green was diagnosed with a stage three aggressive cancer after a delay in diagnosis and difficulty obtaining a second opinion. She was initially seen by Mr. Amir Bhatti, the former clinical lead who is currently suspended from clinical practice pending investigation. Bhatti is still employed on full pay while subject to investigation by the trust and Durham Police.

The petition, signed by over 1,200 people, demands greater accountability and investigation into these failings and patient safety concerns. The situation remains under legal and police review
