Police cordon after 'serious' cyclist crash at Hyde Park Corner

A significant police presence has been established at Hyde Park Corner in central London following a serious traffic collision. Grosvenor Place, a key dual carriageway that connects Hyde Park Corner to Victoria and runs alongside Buckingham Palace, was closed as of 19:00 BST on Saturday. Authorities set up a large cordon around the scene, disrupting traffic flow in the area.

Around ten police vehicles were stationed near the incident site. Within the cordoned-off area, several vehicles were present, including a Lime bike, a cement lorry, two cars, and a moped. Transport for London (TfL) has reported delays on surrounding routes in central London, urging motorists to expect disruptions.

A police officer at the scene confirmed to the BBC that the collision involved a bicycle and a lorry, with the cyclist currently in hospital in a “serious” condition. Both the Metropolitan Police and the London Ambulance Service have been approached for additional details about the incident.

TfL issued a travel advisory on Saturday evening, recommending that drivers avoid Grosvenor Place near the junction with Duke of Wellington Place due to traffic delays. Areas affected by the disruption include Hyde Park Corner, with congestion reported southbound on Park Lane through to Upper Grosvenor Street. Additional delays were noted on Old Brompton Road eastbound towards Yeomans Row, as well as on Grosvenor Place northbound to Lower Grosvenor Place, plus Lower Grosvenor Place and Buckingham Palace Road to Eccleston Street
