E-scooter and police officer collide outside Buckingham Palace

An accident involving an e-scooter rider and a police officer occurred outside Buckingham Palace, resulting in both individuals being taken to a major trauma centre. The incident happened on a Friday afternoon at around 16:00 BST near the gates of the palace, specifically at the eastern end of Constitution Hill. The area was subsequently sealed off by police for several hours as emergency services attended the scene.

Following the collision, the BBC observed medical equipment, a discarded police hat, and the damaged black e-scooter scattered on the road. London Ambulance Service responded promptly, dispatching an ambulance crew, an incident response officer, and the London Air Ambulance via car. They provided treatment to the two males involved and transported them urgently to hospital.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed their involvement in the incident near Buckingham Palace and stated that the police officer was on foot at the time. A spokesperson remarked that both the e-scooter rider and the officer sustained injuries which were assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing. The scene was carefully cordoned off while authorities confirmed the extent of the injuries.

Throughout the evening, officers maintained the police cordon, which extended from the top of Constitution Hill to the Queen Victoria Memorial. At one stage, officers prevented cyclists from passing through the area, reportedly instructing one cyclist loudly to leave the crime scene. It was also noted that the Royal Standard was not flying above the palace, indicating that King Charles was not present during the crash
