King appears as surprise guest at sold-out Shakespeare play

King Charles III made an unexpected appearance at a sold-out showing of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) latest production, *The Tempest*. His arrival at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience as he took his place in the fully seated auditorium.

This production of *The Tempest* marks notable milestones: it is Sir Kenneth Branagh’s return to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre after more than three decades and represents Sir Richard Eyre’s debut directing for the company.
