A London bus driver tragically lost his life after being assaulted on Battersea Bridge. Sergei Krajev, aged 64, was critically injured in the incident that took place around 00:30 BST on Monday. Emergency services transported him to the hospital via air ambulance, but he passed away the following day, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Sergei’s family remembered him as a “wonderful husband, father, and grandfather,” highlighting the warmth and affection he brought to his loved ones. They also praised his character, describing him as a “thoughtful, tactful, and conscientious person who cared about those around him.” In his professional life as a Transport for London bus driver, he was known to be punctual, reliable, and helpful, deeply valuing positive relationships with his colleagues and approaching his job with dedication and care.
The assault reportedly occurred on the pavement beside a stationary bus at a bus stop. Gary Jones, a 32-year-old from Hospital Bridge Road, Twickenham, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm following the attack. Jones appeared in court on Monday and has since been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear next at Kingston Crown Court on 15 June. Following Sergei’s death, the Metropolitan Police have escalated their investigation to a murder inquiry.
Detective Inspector Sarah Lee, heading the investigation, acknowledged the distress caused to the local community and public transport workers. She assured that the police are collaborating closely with Transport for London as they continue their inquiries. DI Lee also urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward to assist the investigation
