Surrey Police has confirmed it is investigating two separate allegations of historical child sexual abuse after the release of files connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender from the United States. One set of allegations concerns incidents that allegedly took place in Surrey and Berkshire during the mid-1990s to 2000, while the other relates to west Surrey in the mid to late 1980s. Currently, no arrests have been made in connection with these inquiries.
According to a statement from Surrey Police, the force approaches all reports of sexual offenses with seriousness, aiming to pursue any reasonable lines of enquiry that may help verify information or gather corroborative evidence. Earlier in February 2026, Surrey Police had sought information regarding an allegation tied to human trafficking and sexual assault from the mid-1990s, though they noted that no evidence was found indicating these Surrey-related claims had been previously reported to them.
Jeffrey Epstein died in a New York prison cell on 10 August 2019 while awaiting trial on charges related to sex trafficking. This occurred more than ten years after he was convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor, a conviction that led to his registration as a sex offender. At the time of his passing, Epstein faced accusations of managing an extensive network involving underage girls for sexual exploitation, a charge he denied by pleading not guilty. Over 3.5 million pages of documents linked to Epstein have since been released by the US Department of Justice, though it should be noted that the presence of individuals’ names in these documents does not imply any wrongdoing, and many named have denied any involvement.
To coordinate a nationwide response, the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) established a group working closely with the National Crime Agency, supporting multiple UK police forces in their investigations related to the Epstein files. Several forces, including Norfolk Constabulary and Police Scotland, have reviewed the allegations to determine whether formal investigations are warranted. Notably, Police Scotland clarified that there is no active investigation regarding Epstein’s private jet’s use of Edinburgh Airport. The Surrey Police investigation complements inquiries underway by both Thames Valley Police and the Metropolitan Police — the latter of which has arrested former government minister Lord Peter Mandelson for alleged misconduct in public office based on claims emerging in the Epstein documents, while Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (the former Prince Andrew), arrested by Thames Valley Police, has not commented on his detention but has consistently denied any wrongdoing linked to Epstein. The BBC understands Lord Mandelson maintains he has not acted criminally and was not financially motivated
