East Belfast: Murder investigation launched after man, 51, dies

Authorities have initiated a murder inquiry after a 51-year-old man lost his life following a break-in at an apartment block located in east Belfast. The victim, identified as Nicholas (Nicky) Gordon, was assaulted when several intruders forced their way into a residence on the Holywood Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Following the attack, Nicky Gordon was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. Law enforcement responded to the scene after receiving a report of the assault around 08:25 BST on the same day, although the events are believed to have occurred roughly at 04:45.

During the investigation, police detained a 24-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm. Both individuals were subsequently released on bail pending further inquiries. Detective Chief Inspector Duffie described the incident, stating that a “number of intruders” entered the apartment and “attacked another male, before making off.”

Emergency medical services attended the location in response to the incident. Authorities are currently urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with the investigation
