A tragic accident occurred at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Friday evening, resulting in the death of a soldier from the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery. Thames Valley Police reported that the individual fell from their horse around 19:00 BST shortly after leaving the arena. Despite prompt medical intervention, the soldier sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene.
Authorities are treating the incident as unexplained but have found no indications of suspicious circumstances. Chief Superintendent Michael Loebenberg from Thames Valley Police stated that the investigation is ongoing in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Accident Investigation Branch, and the organizers of the Royal Windsor Horse Show, HPower. The police have also encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
King Charles III was present at the event when the incident happened and was deeply affected by the news. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed that the King was “shocked and saddened” by the loss and plans to reach out to the soldier’s family to express his personal condolences. It was noted that neither the King nor other members of the Royal Family were aware of the gravity of the situation until later on.
The Army also expressed profound sorrow, releasing a statement expressing their deep regret over the death and confirming that the family of the soldier has been informed.
