Bonnie Tyler, the Welsh singer best known for her iconic hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” is currently recovering in hospital following emergency intestinal surgery. The 74-year-old artist was admitted for the procedure in Faro, Portugal, where she owns a residence. According to a spokesperson, the operation was successful and she is now in the process of recuperation.

The spokesperson also expressed gratitude towards fans, family, and friends, acknowledging the concern surrounding her hospitalization. They said, “We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

Tyler’s career spans several decades, marked by her distinctive gravelly voice and powerful ballads. Born Gaynor Hopkins in a council house in Neath, she discovered her passion for music early in life. Her big break came when talent scout Roger Bell discovered her performing at a club in Swansea. She released her debut single, “Lost in France,” in 1977, but it was the release of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in 1983 that propelled her to international stardom, topping charts in both the UK and the US.

Throughout her career, Tyler has enjoyed numerous other successes, including the hit “Holding Out for a Hero.” She also represented the United Kingdom in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, further cementing her status as a celebrated figure in the music industry
