Chinese tourist who died in Strathpether 'may have been in altercation'

Emergency responders were called to the Main Street area of Strathpeffer, a village in the Highlands, on Monday evening around 19:35. The incident involved a 63-year-old man who later died at the scene. According to BBC Scotland News, the deceased was identified as a Chinese tourist.

Initially, Police Scotland treated the death as a medical matter and indicated there were no suspicious circumstances. However, subsequent investigations led authorities to reconsider this position. An appeal for witnesses was issued following new inquiries that suggested the man might have been involved in an altercation in the village center.

A police spokesperson commented on the case, stating, “From our inquiries so far, we have established the man may have been involved in an altercation with a group in the vicinity of The Square, Strathpeffer.” Because of this, the death has been referred to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, with a post-mortem examination planned to take place.

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that they dispatched two ambulances along with a pre-hospital immediate care and trauma team to the location. Strathpeffer, situated near Dingwall, is known for its history as a Victorian spa resort and remains a favored spot for visitors exploring the Highlands
