Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered the suspect armed with a large sword, and during the confrontation, crossbow bolts were discharged, narrowly missing the police during what has been described as a “sustained attack.” In response, the police employed tasers and baton rounds to subdue the individual.
Superintendent Lynne Corbett praised the officers involved, highlighting their composure under pressure. “The ability to hold your nerve, remain calm and prioritise the safety of not only the public but also the suspect, in the face of continuous potentially life-threatening attack, is something that should not be underestimated,” he stated.
Following his arrest, the man was given a medical assessment and is now set to be questioned on suspicion of multiple offences, including attempted murder, making threats to kill, and possession of an offensive weapon. The PSNI has appealed to the public for any information that could assist in their ongoing investigation and expressed gratitude towards local residents for their cooperation during the incident
