Daniel Kinahan, an Irish fugitive and alleged crime boss, has been apprehended in Dubai in connection with serious organized crime charges. The arrest, which took place in the United Arab Emirates, follows a warrant issued by Irish courts, as reported by RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster. Kinahan, who is in his 40s, was the focus of extensive surveillance and search efforts by Dubai police before being detained on Wednesday, April 15.
According to the authorities in Dubai, the arrest was carried out as part of a broader initiative to fight international crime networks. The operation came after Irish officials sent a judicial file outlining Kinahan’s suspected involvement in an internationally operating criminal organization. This file prompted the Dubai Public Prosecution to issue an arrest warrant, enabling the legal process to begin with a view toward extradition.
An Garda Síochána, the Irish police service, confirmed their awareness of the arrest but noted that the case is currently under the jurisdiction of the United Arab Emirates. Gardaí emphasized that the arrest was conducted in line with the bilateral extradition agreement between Ireland and the UAE. At this stage, they stress that further proceedings are a matter for the UAE authorities to manage.
