The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have commenced a four-day visit to Australia, during which they will engage in a mixture of charitable activities as well as private, commercial events. Though no longer official working members of the royal family, the couple is undertaking this trip in a personal capacity. Their itinerary includes meetings with patients and healthcare workers at a children’s hospital, interactions with military veterans and their families, and support for survivors of family violence.
Alongside these philanthropic engagements, the couple will also participate in several profit-oriented appearances. Prince Harry is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the InterEdge Psychosocial Safety Summit in Melbourne, where ticket prices range from approximately A$1,000 to A$2,400. The Duchess of Sussex is set to lead an in-person discussion at a women-only “girls weekend” event in Sydney, organized by the producers of the Her Best Life podcast. Attendance for this wellness retreat can cost up to A$3,199, and includes a VIP package offering a group photo with Meghan. Details on the payment the couple will receive for these commercial appearances have not been revealed.
Harry and Meghan’s arrival in Australia marks their first visit since 2018, when they toured the country extensively shortly after their wedding. Unlike their previous trip, which attracted large public crowds, this time they are avoiding scheduled public meet-and-greets, opting instead for private engagements. They have stated that this visit is privately funded, but there remain questions regarding the extent to which local authorities, including Australian taxpayers, will cover security costs. Both Victoria Police and New South Wales Police have confirmed they will provide security during the couple’s stay but declined to specify who will bear the expense.
The couple’s stops include Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney. There is speculation that Australia may also be a target market for Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle brand, which has gained visibility through a Netflix series produced by the couple’s own company. Last year, trademarks related to this brand were registered across 12 product categories in Australia. Authorities have indicated that the decision to avoid public encounters is aimed at reducing disruption both for the public and the organizations hosting the pair.
