Four teenagers have been taken into custody following the stabbing of a 16-year-old boy who later died in hospital. The incident occurred near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough, close to Riseholme, prompting a significant police response.
Cambridgeshire Police received an emergency call shortly before 7 pm on Sunday, reporting that a teenager had been attacked in the area. Authorities investigating the case believe the stabbing was targeted rather than a random act. Due to the severity of the situation, St John’s Church School, which is situated nearby, decided to close temporarily, citing the ongoing serious incident in the vicinity.
Among those arrested are a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man from Peterborough, both suspected of murder. Additionally, two girls aged 16 and 17 have been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender, with the 16-year-old girl from March also held for possession of a bladed article. All four remain in police custody as investigations continue.
A substantial police cordon covers the area around the shopping centre, including one of its entrances and surrounding streets, with officers maintaining a heightened presence expected to continue for several days. Flowers have been placed near the scene, reflecting the community’s reaction. Meanwhile, the rear car park of the shopping centre remains closed, though the centre itself is operating normally. Police are urging anyone with information or relevant CCTV footage to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in the ongoing inquiry
