Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has been admitted to hospital following a stroke, according to a statement from GB News. The news outlet reported that Holmes became unwell last week, and it was subsequently confirmed that he had suffered a stroke. He is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding well.
Holmes, who is 66 years old, has enjoyed a long and varied television career. Before joining GB News in 2022, where he co-hosts the breakfast show alongside Ellie Costello, he worked on several other prominent platforms including Sky News and ITV. As Holmes recovers, fellow GB News presenter Alex Armstrong is set to cover his duties on the breakfast programme for the upcoming week.
The GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos expressed his support for Holmes, describing him as a “loved member of the GB News family.” Over the years, Holmes has been open about his health challenges, which have included spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and difficulties with mobility requiring the use of a scooter.
Holmes’ broadcasting career began in Northern Ireland with UTV’s Good Evening Ulster before moving to GMTV at its launch in 1993, where he remained until 2005. He also presented Sky News’s Sunrise breakfast show and later co-hosted ITV’s This Morning alongside Ruth Langsford, whom he married in 2010. However, in 2024, it was confirmed that the couple had separated and were in the process of divorcing.
According to NHS guidelines, a stroke happens when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted. Symptoms might include weakness on one side of the face, problems with speech, or weakness in an arm. Immediate medical attention is critical if a stroke is suspected
