Charing Cross Met PC caught making 'appalling' remarks sacked

A police officer has been dismissed following a Panorama investigation that exposed inappropriate and discriminatory remarks he made about two women. PC Charlie Cano, who was stationed at Charing Cross police station, was found to have made disrespectful comments and boasted about using force against a teenage female detainee during his duty.

PC Cano belonged to the Central West Command Unit, and his conduct was condemned as “appalling” by a senior official after undercover footage, filmed as part of a BBC investigation into the central London police station in October 2025, revealed his behaviour. The Metropolitan Police suspended Cano immediately after the recording, which was not broadcast, came to light.

Commander Simon Messinger described Cano’s actions, captured by a covert journalist working in the custody suite, as deeply troubling. The misconduct hearing concluded that Cano violated several professional standards, including those related to discreditable conduct, misuse of authority, respect and courtesy, and equality and diversity.

This case marks the tenth current or former officer to be found guilty of gross misconduct following Panorama’s undercover inquiry at the station. Messinger emphasized that the Metropolitan Police continues to cooperate with an ongoing Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation into the conduct of multiple officers at Charing Cross. He also stated that the force is committed to improving its culture and raising standards in London policing. Earlier in the year, the IOPC revealed that criminal probes were underway concerning a former constable and a sergeant attached to the station, while another sergeant was under investigation for possible gross misconduct
