Baby girl dies in Redcar suspected dog attack

A man has been taken into custody following the death of a three-month-old infant girl in an alleged dog attack in Redcar, according to police reports. The incident occurred at a property on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, where armed officers were dispatched shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday due to concerns for a child’s safety.

Cleveland Police confirmed that two dogs were put down, one found on the street and the other inside the residence. The arrested individual, a 45-year-old man, faces charges of being in control of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury leading to death. He has since been released on conditional bail.

Authorities believe the young girl succumbed to injuries sustained from a dog bite during the incident. Additionally, a 31-year-old woman was treated in hospital after being bitten on the arm. Both dogs involved were examined by a specialist officer and were not identified as banned breeds.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing, stated that officers will maintain a presence at the location as inquiries proceed. “Our thoughts continue to be with the child’s family following this tragic and distressing incident,” she said, adding a request for respect towards the family’s privacy during this difficult time. The police are appealing to the public for any information or footage that could assist the ongoing investigation
