Spring into success with Liverpool Youth Trailblazer’s next phase

Young individuals aged between 18 and 21 who are currently not engaged in education, employment, or training (NEET) are invited to attend the upcoming Liverpool Youth Trailblazer (LYT) drop-in session on Thursday, 30 April. This event will take place at PINS Social Club on Duke Street, running from 11:30 am to 2 pm, offering a valuable chance for young people and their parents or carers to explore various employment support services and career pathways. Attendees will also enjoy activities such as ten-pin bowling along with a complimentary pizza lunch.

Since its launch last September, the Liverpool Youth Trailblazer initiative has successfully assisted more than 450 young people, helping them develop skills and confidence that have enabled many to progress into further training or secure long-term employment. Building on this achievement, the government has approved a second phase of the project, ensuring ongoing support for this important work. The Liverpool City Region was selected as one of only eight Youth Guarantee Trailblazer areas nationwide, receiving nearly £5 million in funding aimed at fostering innovative ways to help young people into meaningful job opportunities.

The project collaborates with numerous partners and employers—over 250 to date—to address barriers faced by young people when entering the workforce. Support offerings include pre-employment mentoring through organisations such as Catch 22, Merseyside Youth Association, and The Big Trust. In addition, motivational programmes in sports and creative fields are provided by groups including Be Free Campaign, Sound City Liverpool, Merseyside Youth Association, and Kings Trust. Blackburne House delivers targeted in-work support for individuals with additional needs. Meanwhile, hands-on training sessions for employers interested in contributing to youth employment and retention are run by No Place Productions.

Joanne Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment, and Skills at Liverpool City Council, praised the initiative’s progress: “The success that the council’s Youth Trailblazer team has had in just six months is truly impressive. The fact that we have been able to engage with over 450 young people and move them into or closer to employment is a fantastic achievement, making not only a massive difference to the young person and their family but also to the wider city.” She added, “And there’s more to come! This success has led to the second phase of the Liverpool Youth Trailblazer receiving the greenlight and we’re excited to work with even more young people.” Those interested are encouraged to register in advance due to limited spaces. For young people unable to attend in person, support information is available through an online form on the council’s website, and organisations wishing to offer employment opportunities can reach out via email. Updates on the programme’s activities can also be found on their LinkedIn page
