'Miracle' as lost cat returned home after five years

A remarkable reunion recently took place when a woman was finally reunited with her missing cat nearly five years after he disappeared. Danielle Arme, originally from Chellaston, Derby, had lost Bodhi in July 2021 and gradually lost hope of ever seeing him again. The emotional moment arrived on 30 March when Viccie Mahon from Sudbury, Derbyshire, reached out to inform Danielle that Bodhi was safe.

Danielle described the moment she learned Bodhi had been found as overwhelming, saying she “burst into tears.” Following Bodhi’s disappearance, she had actively searched by putting up posters around Chellaston and distributing leaflets. Despite her efforts, after about a year she felt defeated, admitting, “I just lost all hope. I thought ‘I’m never going to get him back’.” Her persistence, however, was about to pay off in an unexpected way.

Meanwhile, Viccie Mahon noticed a cat appearing at her home shortly after Christmas, often sleeping in a carport. Mahon shared that a builder working on her house would sometimes feed the cat, whom she and her family had mistakenly believed was female, naming her Martha. Contemplating the possibility that the cat could have traveled from elsewhere, Mahon arranged for a scan to check for a microchip. Once the chip was detected, a pet tracking company confirmed that the cat was a male named Bodhi from Derbyshire, missing since 2021.

Mahon then took it upon herself to locate the cat’s owner after the tracking company was unable to make contact. Searching online, she found Danielle Arme’s Facebook appeal about the missing Bodhi and got in touch. She described the reunion as “emotional,” adding, “She couldn’t believe it, she was so happy to have him back.” When Danielle finally retrieved Bodhi, she found him resting comfortably in the back of a van belonging to a builder he had bonded with during his absence. Reflecting on the reunion, Danielle said, “I just shed tears. I thought, ‘where have you been all this time?’. I just wish he could talk, you know, he could tell me about all his adventures.
