Authorities have arrested two individuals on suspicion of murder following a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian near Barnsley on Friday evening. The incident took place on Rose Tree Avenue in Cudworth at approximately 16:55 BST. The victim, a 45-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene after being struck by a white Volkswagen Touareg, according to police reports.
The suspects are a 60-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, both of whom are currently being held in custody as investigations continue. South Yorkshire Police have confirmed the arrests but have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cartwright stated that the road on Rose Tree Avenue would remain closed while officers carry out their inquiries. He made a public appeal for anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation. “Our investigation into this tragic incident is still in its early stages and our thoughts first and foremost are with the victim’s family, friends and loved ones,” Cartwright added.
