Overnight, three individuals were taken into custody following a serious shooting incident in Bristol that left a man in his 20s badly injured, according to Avon and Somerset Police. Among those arrested was a man of similar age suspected of attempted murder, with two others — a man and a woman, also in their 20s — detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The incident unfolded around 13:47 BST on Wednesday when gunfire was directed at a vehicle on Speedwell Road. This prompted an immediate police search for the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene on an electric bike. Authorities have since established a crime scene at St Anne’s Woods near Brislington, identifying this location as a key area in their ongoing investigation.
Police confirmed that the injured man was transported to hospital, where he remains in serious condition. “Officers have been working since the incident occurred to identify and locate the individual responsible, and three people are now in police custody,” the police statement said. In response to the shooting, the police deployed a significant force, including armed officers, drone units, and the National Police Air Service helicopter, to secure the area and assist with their inquiries.
As a precaution, four local schools were put into temporary lockdown during Wednesday afternoon, and several roads were closed while officers managed the scene. Avon and Somerset Police emphasized that they are not seeking any additional suspects connected to the event but warned residents of a continued, visible police presence around Speedwell and St Anne’s Woods. The public has been encouraged to report any information that might aid the investigation
