Aria Thorpe: Teenager denies murdering nine-year-old girl

A 16-year-old boy has entered a not guilty plea in court following accusations that he fatally stabbed nine-year-old Aria Thorpe. The incident took place in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on December 15 of the previous year. Due to his age, the boy’s identity is being withheld.

Authorities were called to Aria’s residence in the Mead Vale area at 18:09 GMT on the day she died. Medical examination later determined that she succumbed to a single stab wound to her chest. The accused was apprehended shortly afterward, at 18:19, in the nearby area of Worle.

During a hearing at Bristol Crown Court, the defendant remained silent except to enter his plea of not guilty to murder charges. The court scheduled the trial to commence on June 15, with the prosecution anticipating it will last approximately two weeks. Throughout the 20-minute session, the boy wore a white shirt and red tie and kept his gaze fixed forward.

Aria’s mother’s side of the family described her as “the most beautiful little soul – happy-go-lucky, full of light, and joy.” Judge Martin Picton confirmed that restrictions on publishing the defendant’s identity will stay in place. He also ruled that the accused will remain in custody until the trial begins
