Brain-damaged Scot 'stuck' in hospital at centre of police probes

A woman from Scotland is urgently seeking the transfer of her nephew, who has suffered severe brain damage, from a mental health facility in England that is currently under intense police investigation. Jordan Jones, aged 36, sustained serious brain injuries after being attacked in Aberdeen in 2016. Since mid-2020, he has been receiving rehabilitation at St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton.

Recent reports have exposed troubling allegations at St Andrew’s, where 15 staff members have been arrested since October 2024 on charges including rape, ill-treatment, and neglect. In response, NHS England has directed the search for alternative accommodations for hundreds of patients currently housed at the facility. Caroline Munro, Jordan’s aunt and his legal guardian, is advocating for him to be brought closer to home in Aberdeen so that local health services can oversee his care.

St Andrew’s Healthcare, a charitable organization, has stated that patient welfare remains its top priority. Meanwhile, the Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership is actively involved in efforts to relocate two patients from Aberdeen who are currently at the Northampton unit. Numerous accounts from patients, family members, and whistleblowers have painted a picture of systemic abuse, including the use of inappropriate restraint methods that have sometimes caused injuries.

Caroline Munro regularly visits Jordan at the Northampton facility, traveling from Aberdeen each month. She describes his progress since the attack as remarkable but remains deeply concerned about his wellbeing. “Jordan has been left with a catastrophic brain injury, he has been left non-vocal,” she said. She also voiced worries about unexplained injuries and the impact of medications on his recovery, expressing a desire to reduce them. While she was not surprised by the police investigations, she hopes they will prompt necessary action and allow Jordan to return home, where he truly belongs
