An 18-day-old infant tragically passed away after falling from a height in London, and the child’s mother has now been charged with murder, according to police statements. Zahira Byjaouane, aged 43 and residing on Horseferry Road in Westminster, was formally charged on Sunday and has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of the incident at approximately 07:30 GMT on Saturday, attending a residential property on Horseferry Road where the infant had fallen. Following the event, a police cordon was established on Great Peter Street, near Horseferry Road, and forensic teams were deployed to investigate the scene.
Police revealed that Byjaouane is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell commented on the case, stating, “At this stage, we believe the incident occurred within a domestic context, but we are appealing for anybody with information to come forward.” She further expressed the sorrow surrounding the event: “The death of an infant is always an extremely tragic occurrence, and officers are making urgent enquiries around the circumstances.”
As the investigation continues, detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the inquiry into the infant’s death.
