The 32-year-old midfielder was charged last month with two counts of rape relating to an incident in December 2020. These new allegations come after he was previously charged last year with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving separate complainants.
Partey did not attend the preliminary hearing for these new charges at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday. During the hearing, prosecutor Arabella MacDonald explained that the complainant in this most recent case came forward after the earlier allegations against Partey gained widespread media attention. Following the hearing, the footballer was granted bail under strict conditions, including a prohibition on contacting the alleged victim.
Thomas Partey transferred to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a fee estimated at around £45 million. He remained with Arsenal until his departure in June of last year. In addition to his club career, Partey has represented Ghana internationally over 50 times, including appearances at the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations
