Man caught spiking women's drinks on Derby Wetherspoons pub CCTV

CCTV footage captured the incident at a Wetherspoons pub in Derby where a man was seen tampering with the drinks of two women. According to Derbyshire Police, Steven Millward, 38, added a white powder to their glasses while the women were away in the restroom at The Standing Order in February 2025.

Upon returning, one of the women spotted the powder in her drink and took it to the bar, where the staff quickly became suspicious that the substance had been deliberately placed there. Subsequent review of the CCTV footage revealed Millward’s actions clearly, showing him adding the powder to the beverages, as confirmed by police.

Officers were immediately called to the scene, and Millward, who lives on Maple Drive in Chellaston, was arrested inside the pub. When questioned by police, he claimed he intended to consume what he believed was cocaine, assuming the women had left the area. However, testing of the powder later confirmed that it contained no controlled substances.

During the court proceedings at Derby Crown Court on 23 February, Millward pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to unlawfully or maliciously administer a poison or noxious substance with the intent to injure, aggrieve, or annoy. He received a prison sentence of seven months, suspended for 15 months, and was ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work
