Moy: Grief 'unimaginable' after fatal crash

A tragic three-vehicle collision on the Armagh Road near the village of Moy in County Armagh has left communities devastated after three people lost their lives. The crash occurred on Saturday evening and resulted in the immediate deaths of Conor Quinn, aged 31, from Derryloughan, County Tyrone; John Guy, 48, originally from Dublin but residing in Keady; and 23-year-old Laura Hoy from Cookstown.

Local representatives expressed deep sorrow over the incident. SDLP councillor Thomas O’Hanlon described the grief as “unimaginable” and noted the profound silence that has settled over the community. He reflected on the lasting impact on the families of those who died, saying, “Your heart just goes out to families where mummies and daddies aren’t there for big occasions, for the little things that you want to run and tell them happened on this day at school or that day at work. That’s where it will really hit home.” Reports indicate that as many as 11 children lost a parent in the crash.

Highlighting safety concerns, O’Hanlon mentioned the Armagh Road’s high traffic volume at all hours, pointing out that “people are always concerned about road safety on that stretch of road.” Similarly, Sinn Féin assembly member Colm Gildernew spoke about a feeling of numbness within the community, stating, “Three families, three communities totally ripped apart… I have no doubt this will be something that will just totally change lives forever.” He emphasized the community’s commitment to supporting the affected families through this difficult time.

In addition to the fatalities, four other individuals were injured in the collision. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service responded by deploying multiple emergency units, including rapid response paramedics, seven emergency crews, a Hazardous Area Response Team, and an ambulance doctor. After initial treatment at the scene, two patients were transported to Craigavon Area Hospital and another to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage or relevant information about the crash to come forward to aid their ongoing investigation
